Bio of Olu L.A. Jabari
Martial Artist
Peace and blessings my fellow martial artist. My name is Olu L. A. Jabari; I begin martial arts in the year of 1980. My first instructor was Marvis Cofield in the style of Tang soo do. Under the direction of Master Cofield at that time, I knew very little but was much interested in doing something, so I became a student and begin to take this journey. After about 2 years I stop practicing for about four years as I begin to identify with who I was, and what I decided to become within my self. In 1988 I begin practicing again under the direction of Master Marvis Cofield and maintained my focus of wanting to learn and teach as well. Many martial artist of the Alkebu-lan Federation begin to teach me, however my main instructor became Marvis Cofield. Master Marvis Cofield took the time out and educated me in the martial arts for a period of three years consecutively along with one other student. After receiving my Black belt in 1991 I begin to help the Alkebu-lan Martial Arts build on what to me was one of the best karate programs in the country. In the year of 1994 I was tested again by Master Cofield and Black Belts of what is now called the Alkebu-do system. During this testing it became quite intense and I really enjoyed my learning ability to have the opportunity to show what I had learned in front of honorable black belts. After testing, it was told to me by Master Cofield, that I had been promoted to third Dan, becoming one of the only black belts in the Alkebu-do system to receive this honor. As time moved forward I continued to practice and developed Alkebu-lans first adults class, and trained adults from white belt through black belt, for an average of four years. During this time, I also became the program director for all the after-school programs for the Alkebu-do system. Along with other martial artist, Alkebu-lan became the largest karate program in the country for contracted services and at one time, I had the pleasure of teaching and managing over 30 programs on one school calendar year. In 2001 I left the Alkebu-do system and begin my own school called Jabari’s Martial Arts Academy. In my first year of practicing in the community we donated more than $250,000 dollars worth of services to five sights including some uniforms, testing, tournaments and instruction three days per week. In the year of 2003, Jabari’s Martial Arts Academy continued to be blessed and opened a martial arts school in downtown Detroit and also gave it’s first collaborative tournament which became a success and this was the sign of great things to come. Since that time Jabari’s Martial Arts Academy has continued to teach Martial Arts through the state of Michigan, administering over 175 successful after school program, and teaching more than 10,000 young students through the school system, community organizations, seminars, workshops and personal training programs. Training and having the pleasure to promote and practice with dozens of black belts. Olu Jabari has developed many martial artists that have become local, state and national champions. Olu Jabari became a household name in the Detroit Community and has been recognized by Detroit City Council, State senators, received the presidents award, recognized by the Michigan Chronicle, Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, Martial Arts Magazines, channels 2, 4, 20, Comcast cable stations and television programs as being a program that not only gives back to the community, but one that cares about the lively hood of our youth, teenagers, adults and senior citizens. Currently Olu Jabari continues practicing, teaching, collaborating and partnering in the state of Michigan with those of like minds. Olu Jabari schools continue to be blessed and prosper by no means of his own, but by God. Olu Jabari has two karate schools in Michigan, one located on the Eastside of Detroit, and the other located on the Westside of Detroit. Olu Jabari, wishes to thank all fellow martial artist who continue to help all people, by remembering that we must put the people before the profit in order to be blessed. Olu Jabari every year since 2001 has provided a Martial Arts Tournament for youth, adults and senior citizens and to date has given away more than 2000 trophies, plagues and medals, and over $10, 000 dollars in cash and prizes!
Olu Jabari has continued to have a blessed marriage for 18 years and has one Child Melody Jabari, who is also a martial arts champion. Olu Jabari believes that putting God first, and continuing to praise him for allowing himself and other fellow martial artist, the ability to help participants reach their full potential, and believes that “if you can conceive it, than you can achieve it.”
In closing Olu Jabari and the schools of Jabari’s Martial Arts Academy would like to give a personal thank you to God first for the many blessing that are unaccountable. Secondly to his wife for believing in his dreams, his daughter for maintaining her commitment and to you, all the martial artist who have laid the foundation, for young martial artist including myself and others to be able to continue your work in the martial arts community.
“Remembering, no one martial artist can do all, but together we can change the face of this planet”
Peace and Blessing

Master Eugene Woods
Master Eugene Woods has over 36 years in Karate. He has achieved the rank of Hachi-Dan (Eight Degree black belt). He has numerable awards and trophies and many years of competition and is committed to passing on the valuable knowledge in Isshinryu Karate to students

Master George Reynolds
Master George Reynolds has 39 years in Karate. He has trained in Tang Soo Do, in Tae Kwon Do and finally his home style of Isshinryu Karate. He has achieved the rank of Roko Dan (7th Degree black belt). In 2000 he was awarded the spirit of Isshinryu award . In 1992 he was inducted into the Michigan Hall of Fame with such greats as Grand Master Willie Adams.

Master Samuel G. Santilli
Master Samuel G. Santilli began training in Isshinryu Karate-do with two of his sons in June, 1968 under Sensei Doug Noxon, San-dan, at theAcademy of Martial Arts, 1379 Inkster Road, Inkster, Michigan. Tragically, Sensei Noxon was killed in an automobile accident on the evening of April 28, 1971. Master Santilli continued training for a time under Sensei Noxon's partner, Norbert B. Donnelly, Yon dan. In 1973, Master Santilli moved to the Plymouth Karate Health Spa, operated by Mr. Bob White, then Sho-dan. Although he only held the rank of Ni-kyu, he began his teaching career under Mr. White's supervision due to the shortage of Dan-grades at that time. Shortly thereafter, he began formal instruction under Grandmaster Willie Adams, then San-dan; Grandmaster Adams promoted him to Sho-dan in 1974. Master Santilli believes that, from a historical perspective, Karate was developed as a practical fighting art and means of self-preservation. Conditions in 17th Century Okinawa, when Karate was being developed, were much different than now, but there are parallels between the two eras. In general, the reasons we study Karate today are for self-defense, to "get in shape" and to satisfy our egos. Spiritual growth is probably the last reason to study Karate in the mind of today's beginning Karate-ka. But, following the teachings of Sensei Noxon, Master Santilli is convinced of the importance of the metaphysical side of Isshinryu. One of the most important concepts taught to Master Santilli by Grandmaster Adams is that of returning to the Art that which has been given to him, and he has tried for many years to pass this principle on to his own students. His dojo is an extension of his family; he treats his Dan-grade students like younger brothers and sisters, his Kyu-ranks are like his own children. His Isshinryu curriculum is not restricted to punching, kicking and kata, it includes good citizenship, the importance of education and also involvement in the community. Master Sam Santilli has achieved the rank of Hachi-Dan (Eight Degree black belt).

Grandmaster Delford Fort
Grand Master Delford Fort started Martial Arts in 1967, after the riot in Detroit Michigan. Hs mother wanted something to keep him off the streets and to stress discipline. In those days, everyone was learning from soldiers returning from Vietnam. They taught Korean Karate (now known as Tae-Kwon-Do). Several youth centers were teaching some form or another of Gung-Fu (Kung-Fu, Wu Shu). Mr. Fort was taught Wing Chun under Master Hotz (a 70 year old brick layer), who saw something special in Mr. Fort. Master Hotz closed his class and only instructed Fort in the way of longevity.
After receiving a black belt at an early age and the death of Master Hotz, Fort began training where he could. His mother enrolled him into a Tae-Kwon-Do Ji-Do-Kwan school under Mr. Tommy Cummings, who studied the martial arts while stationed in Seoul Korea earning a black belt. He later learned from the greats such as: Howard Jackson, Michael Jones (a student of the great Moses Powell). Grandmaster Fort has studied over the years AiKi Ju Jitsu, Judo, Shotokan, Wrestling, and currently holds the title MKU (Master) under the Alkebu-Lan Martial Arts Federation. By combining these disciplines, Master Fort created his own system called Yochin-Ryu (Devastation and Immobilization).
Master Fort sits on the board of directors of the following organizations: I.C.E (individual Conquering Excellence) TSDMAS (Tang Soo Do Martial Arts Society), He was inducted into the Youth Karate-Ka Hall of Fame. Presented with the following awards: ATA Appreciation award by Kyooshi Kevin Bolden; Community Award presented by Mfudishi Ahati Kilindi IYI; presented the title of Elder of the T'ai Ka-Ku-Chi system under Grandmaster Andre Hightower; Life Time Achievement award from the Dragon 8 fighting system under Great Grandmaster Robb "The Dragon" Hogan; Award of Appreciation by Grandmaster Dave Zacker; Masters Legend award presented by Master Richard Bell. Mr. Fort is a former member of the AKA (American Karate Association), USKA (United States Karate Assoc), and is now a member of the MSKC (Michigan Sport Karate Circuit) as a promoter of karate tournaments (The Spirit of Detroit National Karate Championships).
Master Fort has a very impressive tournament record having won over 100 Grand Championships and over 400 trophies, including several hundred awards for his contributions to the Martial Arts. His greatest Grand Championship trophy was won in 1982 in Detroit, MI at Wayne State University. A bare knuckle full contact no blood disqualification tournament held by the Great Kajana Cetshwayo (Master instructor of the belts of Kenpo), which is described as people getting knocked out all over the tournament floor. Master Fort has Body Guarded celebrities and toured the world such as: Prince, Run DMC, CECE Penniston, Luther Vandross, Snoop Doggy Dog, Ki Ci & JoJo, Jodeci and the list goes on.
When karate novice Delford Fort transformed his mother's Westside Detroit basement into a training facility over three decades ago. He only wanted to share what he learned about martial arts in an effort to deter his neighborhood friends from the lure of fast money (selling drugs or gang affiliation). What came from this inspiration, were seven inner city black belts and the inception of Yellow Tigers Karate. With the help of founding students/members: Darryl Brown, Quintin Harbin, Tony Knight, Eric Knight, Derrick Lacey, Jake Mines, and Bruce Richardson. Fort built an organization that does much more than train and compete in the martial arts events. The Yellow Tigers have provided positive direction, just as they practiced themselves to literally thousands of people throughout metropolitan Detroit area.

"ICE" stands for Individuals, Conquering, Excellence, and this exciting new
organization is dedicated to ensuring fairness in martial arts competition by adhering to the following principles:
In an effort to promote unity and cooperation among the various martial arts styles and programs in Michigan and the midwest, a number of leading grandmasters and masters formed the ICE Federation in late 2006.
Tournaments exist for the benefit of the competitors and participants, not for the sole purpose of providing profit to the promoter. Through cooperation and teamwork, tournaments and other events will be scheduled so as to minimize the chance of conflict with another event and to allow reasonable
time between events.
In the spirit of cooperation and harmony, students at participating ICE schools will have the opportunity to cross-train at other participating ICE schools for a low nominal fee. Participating Black Belt members of ICE support participating programs by serving on testing boards. ICE Instructors participate in an annual ICE awards banquet to honor the top ICE
competitors and to celebrate solidarity in the martial arts community.
Participating members of ICE will support the Federation by attending and participating in ICE-sanctioned events. Honor and respect for other members and for the martial arts community shall permeate all decisions and actions by ICE members.
